The Brother HL-4040CN printer with MFC-4040CN cartridges, is flexible enough for installation at home or in a small workplace. It's a fast performer, able to churn out both color and monochrome prints. Because it employs laser technology, it's possible to enjoy documents with professional quality while keeping the prints per page cost to a minimum.
The reason behind its speedy performance is the NEC VR5500 300MHz processor within it. It allows the machine to produce 21 color and black-and-white pages a minute with Brother toner cartridge. The first page is already out in about 16-17 seconds only. Actual speed, however, may vary. It's dependent on a few factors, including the media size used and the configuration of the computer it's plugged into. Waste no time in waiting and jump into the printing task right away as the warm up time is 33 seconds only from sleep mode or 37 seconds from power on.
Using a resolution of 2400 dpi x 600 dpi (dots per inch), documents end up with sharp texts and clear graphics. That's why homes and small offices alike may take advantage of it for coming up with professional-looking printouts. You can expect a laser machine to produce brochures, presentations, and reports that end up looking stunning.
With the 250-sheet standard media tray and 50-sheet multipurpose tray, deadlines can be met easily. There are a variety of media types compatible including bond paper, plain paper, transparencies, labels and envelopes. Supported media sizes range anywhere from executive, letter, legal, A5, A6, B5 to B6. The multipurpose tray, other than these, can also work with custom ones from as large as 8.5" x 14.0" to as small as 2.75" x 4.57".
A 64MB memory comes pre-installed, although it may be upgraded to as high as 512MB for handling more complicated tasks. Such is possible thanks to the 144-pin S0-DIMM memory slot available. The printer language included (PCL 6) comes with as many as 12 bitmap fonts, 66 scalable fonts and 13 bar codes.
In hooking up this printer to a network, there's the integrated 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet port. A hi-speed USB 2.0 port is also provided for use with a single computer. Thanks to this fitted USB port, it's possible to directly print PDF and JPEG files directly from a USB flash memory without switching on the computer. What's more, photos found in a PictBridge-enabled digital camera can also be printed by plugging it in.
Bundled with the machine upon purchase are starter toners (black, yellow, cyan and magenta). The black toner can yield as many as 2500 pages with 5 percent coverage, while the rest can yield as many as 1500 pages each with 5 percent coverage. Genuine Brother toners may be obtained both from land-based and online printer consumables sellers.
The form factor of the Brother HL-4040CN printer with 4040CN cartridges, has a dimension of 16.5 x 18.7 x 12.5 inches (width x depth x height) and it tips the scale at 64.2 pounds.
