SCSI Hard Drives? What are they used for? Are they outdated?
Im thinking of buying a bunch to sell. They do sell but do you think there out dated? According to wikipedia they were introduced in the 80's and are mostly used in server systems and such. Do you think its worth it to make an investment in like 100 or so SCSI 9.1gb hard drives at like 60% less than the average sale price (on ebay)?
well, to be honest w/ you, the mere fact that you don't have a fundamental understanding of what you're considering should be a red flag to turn away. in any case, here's my no-non-sense, layman's answer. scsi hard drives are traditionally used in server environments due to the cost associated w/ the related hardware. but, w/ the advent of sata & sas technology [google them], traditional scsi has been becoming less popular. 9.1gb drives are definitely outdated. if you buy those, you'll probably get more of a return using (or selling) them as christmas tree ornaments. not to mention, the capacity:space ratio is completely unjustified w/ today's offerings. right now, you can buy a 500gb drive that has half the footprint. in short, you'll just end up like that poor sap that's trying to dump them off on to someone unsuspecting like yourself who was thinking the same thing. but, if you're a gambling man, i'd try to secure signed purchasing agreements/purchase orders before buying those drives to minimize your chance at getting stuck w/ them.
