E-SATA External Enclosure?
I chose to use E-Sata for my external enclosure since it's much more faster, but I wonder if i can turn the device off, then back-on like how the USB "plug and play" feature work without affecting or damaging anything. Do i have to shut my comp down just to turn it back on once I turned it off?
I take it this is a USB device which uses a SATA type disk drive? If so, then all you need do is "stop the USB service" before you unplug or turn off the device. Windoze does some absolutely stupid things, one of which is a "delayed write" to disk drives, both internal AND external. If you turn off the drive, it COULD damage the directory and file system as a result of not finishing the delayed write. You do NOT have to shut down your computer, just STOP the service before turning the drive OFF. Plug and play does NOT mean what you THINK it dies. It means windoze has support for many devices "built in" so you do not need to install any other software. USB disk drives, for example, ever since windoze 2000 are ALL handled by drivers already built in to windoze. Plug and play does NOT mean you can plug in and unplug things as you please when your computer is ON. USB is quite forgiving in this respect, but if you do NOT stop the USB service, you risk damage to the files and directory. Peripherals are NOT on/off devices like a light bulb! They need proper starting and stopping to stay in good health.
