My external hard drive won't show up in Windows Explorer. Why?
It's a 3.5 SATA desktop hard drive in an enclosure. When I plug it in to the PC, windows tells me that it found a new hard drive, and then tells me that my hardware is installed and ready for use. And when I click the message bubble for more details, it tells me the hardware type and name, as though it totally recognizes it. But when I look in Windows Explorer at my available drives, it's not there at all. Why?
go under computer management and check the drive under disk management. If it's a new drive it needs to be partitioned and formatted first. without a formatted partition it will not show up as a drive letter in My Computer. To get to disk management right click on my computer, choose manage, click Disk Management and see the new drive. create a partition on it if needed and format it. Good luck.
