What is the difference between a dvd player and a blue ray player?
Can I play DVDs on a blue ray, blue ray on a DVD, or are they compatible at all?
I know I'm old and technically challenged but I'd like to learn.
DVD's only carry standard def video.
BluRay players:
* Carry 1080p video - the highest possible resolution that an HDTV can accept
* Can play DVD's and up-convert them (really "Magnify them")
* Use a single HDMI cable to output both video and audio
* Some BluRay players are "Networked" and have "Apps" like Netflix, BlockBusterOnLine, etc so you can watch streaming content as well as disk content.
My personal opinion:
Get a name brand (Panasonic, Sony, Samsung) BluRay player without apps/networking. Try www.bestbluraydeals.com for Amazon vendors offering lower price.
Get a "Media Bridge" HDMI cable from Amazon for $9-20.
If you want "Apps" or services like Netflix - get a dedicated box like the "Western Digital TV Live" unit for about $90. My BluRay player has about 7 apps. My Western Digital Live box has 27 and it has a USB jack so I can copy video files from my computer and play them on my HDTV.
Hope this helps.
Coiba, Panama: Mission Blue Dives To The Hannibal Bank (PHOTOS) (Huffington post)
**Mission Blue:**
_By Jenifer Austin Foulkes, Oceans Program Manager, Google:_
Kip Evans and Shari Sant Plummer left early in the morning to rendezvous with
the Undersea Hunter support ship for the DeepSea sub. Shari and David Shaw
made a 350 foot (120 meters) dive in the sub to explore Hannibal Bank, where
they saw numerous stomatopod Mantis shrimp, who mate for life. Kip and Biff
did a 120 foot dive to photograph the sub descent. They saw a dead fish carcas
at 300 feet being eaten by crabs. They also saw pink coral with white fringes,
and a coral that looked like a taco-salad in a flour tortilla bowl. A big ray
with false black eyespots on each wing swam by at 340 feet.
