How To Reduce The Running Costs Of A Swimming Pools
If you are fortunate enough to own a swimming pool then you may find the yearly costs of opening a swimming pool for the summer a bit hard to stomach, on top of that you have to add the monthly costs of running a pool and buying the additional necessities such as pool chemicals and time spent cleaning pool enclosures that protect your pool from the winter elements. There are of course many steps you can take to ensuring your pool is running as efficiently as possible, and swimming pool enclosures are a perfect option as they will help to keep dirt out of your pool water and reducing the strain on your filter, they also help to heat the water which directly reflects in a saving on your energy bill.
A swimming pool enclosure is only one way in which you can start to make a saving on running your swimming pool and making it work a little harder for you in the long run, another area that you can look to save money is pool pumps. A pool pump is one of those parts of a swimming pool that are essential to the health of your pool as they help to circulate the water and prevent parts of the pool becoming stagnant, however they are also one of the parts that people will turn a blind eye to so long as it keeps working, this isnt the best approach especially if you are running an old and inefficient pump.
One of the other areas where costs can be saved on running a swimming pool is your pool lighting as this is often over looked as not being that expensive, but when you consider that the older style lighting used in swimming pools uses light bulbs and that these inevitably burn out and need replacing, the costs can soon add up. By replacing your old style of lighting with the modern equivalent is a great step to help reducing the running cost of your pool, the modern lighting systems use LED technology instead of conventional bulbs to light underwater and the surrounding areas, these are a great addition as they use less energy to run and they are also capable of many different lighting effects.
Tranquil PC ships MMC-12: a 1.5-inch thick, fanless HTPC (Engadget)
We haven't heard from Britain's own Tranquil PC in a hot minute, but the
company's storming into the new year with a machine that's easy to overlook.
In a good way. The MMC-12 Media Center measures just 1.5-inches thick,
enabling it to be slid into (or under) just about any A/V rack. £649 (right
around $1,000) nets you a Core i3 processor, 4GB of DDR3 memory (plus another
open RAM slot), an admittedly paltry 80GB mSATA hard drive, CD / DVD burner,
Windows 7 Home Premium and an HDMI port. You'll also get a pair of USB 3.0
ports, two underwhelming (and bound to be unloved) USB 2.0 sockets, a gigabit
Ethernet jack, DVI socket and an aluminum enclosure. The company recommends
that you connect a couple of your favorite USB TV tuners for maximum
enjoyment, and in case you're wondering, Blu-ray drives and international
shipping is available.
